Harnessing Your Information to Create Business Value

Jesse Wilkins, President, Athro Consulting

The rate at which organizations create information continues to surge, yet most organizations’ information holdings look more like “digital landfills”: full of junk, unorganized, and hard to deal with. And in many organizations, this is framed as a conversation about compliance, risk, keeping the CEO out of jail, etc. But the conversation has changed. In order to “get a seat at the table”, or even remain relevant, we need to shift from a compliance-focused mindset to how effective records and information management can actually drive business value within our organizations.

In this presentation, we’ll briefly review the traditional approach and messaging around records management. We’ll then look at how we can change the focus from compliance and risk to enabling the organization to meet its goals and objectives. We’ll brainstorm, and discuss, some specific ways to position records and information management as a way to create real business value for the organization. All attendees will receive a copy of the final list of recommendations and a list of additional resources.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

  • Understand the need to change the RIM conversation from risk and compliance to business value
  • Define specific strategies for aligning RIM to the organization’s goals and objectives
  • Develop messaging that supports the value of RIM in support of the organization
