10:00-10:55 Information Security - Why Should Information Managers Care About Hackers?

Information management and information security often seem to be on diverging paths. Many information managers work hard to enable access to information, while information security professionals work to close it down. Many organizations tend to place each group of professionals in different organizational trees, furthering the lack of communication and coordination. Threats to the organization, however, should bring information security professionals and information management professionals together. This presentation will outline the threats against confidential and proprietary information. These threats include insiders, hackers and disasters. The presenter will discuss the ways in which information management professionals can work more closely with information security professionals to identify threats as well as identify information that has significant risk or value to the organization.

Learning Objectives:

  • How to add attributes to inventories of information that identify risk or threats to the information
  • Understanding the newest threats to organizations, including the Advanced Persistent Threat (APT)
  • How to discuss risk with information security professionals and meet their requirements to remediate risks
